Here comes a very short description of my background. I started with Judo at age 15 and took on Shotokan Karate about three years later. 10 years later I added Ju Jutsu (a German revival of the classical Jiu-Jitsu) to my training routine and my last free day of the week was gone ;-) I also did a tiny bit of Aikido, Kung Fu (Praying Mantiss Style) and Stick Fighting, but not very seriously.
Currently I am holding a 4th Dan in Judo, a 3rd Dan in Shotokan Karate and a 3rd Dan in Ju-Jutsu, but as we all know that does not necessarily mean anything. However, I did win the German Ju Jutsu Championships in 2000, was pretty successful in many Judo Kata tournaments (together with my Kata partner Armin Hausmann) and was not completely unsucessful in numerous, regional Judo and Karate tournaments.
Some years ago I stopped competing (one gets older or wiser) and shifted my focus towards BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu), Submission Wrestling, MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) and a bit of knife defence.
Outside of the gym, I am a computer scientist at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience in Brisbane, Australia and interested in the prediction of protein function, utilizing computational protein models and machine learning algorithms (Hey, someone has to do something for a living ;-). If you are really curious, here is my CV as a PDF file. When I don't train or work (or sleap or eat), I am trying to maintain and extend this website or trying to find excuses not to do so.
